Training & Education

Throughout the year, the Florida Gang Investigators Association (FGIA) offers several training opportunities. The Basic and Intermediate  Specialist Courses are offered at various law enforcement agencies around the state.The annual prevention and intervention summit is held each June and the annual anti-gang workshop is held in August of each year.  The Advanced Specialist Course is only held in conjunction with the August workshop. if you or your agency is interested in hosting a training, please contact your regional director.

Basic Specialist Course

This is an 8-hour course taught in a traditional classroom setting. This course covers the history of major national gangs, gangs and social media, Florida Statute 874, gang psychology, outlaw motorcycle gangs and officer safety. Intermediate Specialist Course

This is an 8-hour course taught in a non-traditional setting. This is an interactive course which teaches the student how to investigate a gang-related case from the inception to developing a probable case affidavit.

Intermediate Specialist

Advanced Specialist Course

This is the newest course added by FGIA. This is an 8-hour course taught in a traditional classroom setting. The Intermediate Specialist Course is the foundation of this course. This course will cover court room testimony and getting evidence related admitted into trial.

Prevention & Intervention Summit

In June 2015, FGIA hosted the first Prevention & Intervention Summit in Daytona Beach Florida.  The purpose of the Summit is to provide training to law enforcement, educators, social workers, intervention specialist, prevention specialist and mental health specialist as it relates to  gangs. In additional to gang training, the summit focuses on other topics such as mental health, resources and community programs.

Annual Anti-Gang Training Workshop

Since 1993, FGIA has hosted an annual training workshop. This is a week long training event with numerous opportunities to take a variety of courses. This workshop has been deemed one of the best gang training in the country. Each year we provide relevant, up to date training as it relates to gangs.  This training is for law enforcement, corrections, prosecutors, judges, analyst and juvenile justice professionals.
